Exploring Switzerland’s breathtaking beauty? Look no further! Switzerland is a European gem, offering a blend of stunning Alpine landscapes, pristine lakes, cascading waterfalls, and year-round outdoor adventures. But that’s not all — Switzerland also boasts charming towns with traditional Swiss architecture and unmatched views. Here are my recommendations for the most beautiful towns in Switzerland.

Appenzell

Northeastern Switzerland at the Alpstein Mountains’ base. With its car-free streets and traditional customs, this rural haven is home to 7000 residents. Explore quaint streets, visit the Appenzell Museum, hike in the majestic Alps, and savor the renowned local Appenzell cheese. Don’t miss the opportunity to embark on a small-group tour from Zurich to experience the Swiss mountains, where fresh milk, delectable Swiss cheese, and chocolate await your taste buds.

Have you ever received a huge roaming bill after a trip abroad? Have you ever lost phone service or connectivity while traveling — and found yourself desperately searching for free Wi-Fi? Have you wasted time anxiously looking for a SIM vendor at the airport? We experienced all of these things, this is why we created Airalo.

🏡 Where To Stay In Appenzell

The luxurious, yet charming Romantik Hotel Santis is a great upscale option offering all the amenities while the Hotel Adler provides a more simplistic, yet communal atmosphere.

Lauterbrunnen

Welcome to Lauterbrunnen, nestled in the magnificent Lauterbrunnen valley, one of Switzerland’s largest nature conservations. Nature enthusiasts, this is your haven! Majestic mountains loom over the charming village, and the surrounding landscapes unveil stunning meadows, picturesque valleys, and an abundance of waterfalls.

While in Lauterbrunnen, wander down the enchanting main street, embark on a waterfall-hunting expedition, and, for the daring spirits, opt for a helicopter tour over the Alps for the ultimate scenic delight. Don’t forget to book a thrilling speedriding experience for an adventure of a lifetime!

🏡Where To Stay In Lauterbrunnen

The modest Hotel Steinbock offers great mountain views and excellent proximity to the train station, while the slightly-trendier Hotel Silberhorn offers a sun terrace, great menu options, and family rooms.

Kandersteg

Kandersteg, nestled in the pristine embrace of the Alps, is a gem in the Bernese Oberland region and one of my personal favorites. This tranquil village beckons to nature enthusiasts, offering a plethora of natural wonders to explore.

In Kandersteg, an absolute must is a visit to the glacier-fed Lake Oeschinensee, a picturesque gem. Don’t forget to discover the enchanting Lake Blausee, a hidden jewel. For a touch of the exotic, explore the Tropical House Frutigen. And, of course, immerse yourself in the multitude of hiking trails that unveil the breathtaking beauty of the area.

🏡Where To Stay In Kandersteg

If you prioritize an elevator and being right in town, I highly recommend Hotel Bluemlisalp, while if you’re looking for a quieter atmosphere and a cable car ride, then I’d say go for Berghotel Oeschinensee. That said, Hotel Des Alpes is another simple, yet quaint option located right in town.

Iseltwald

Iseltwald, a quaint old fishing village gracing the southern shores of Lake Brienz, is a scenic haven just a short ten-minute drive from Interlaken. This charming town is adorned with traditional-style hotels, a picturesque small castle, a charming harbor, and a delightful little island just off the coast.

Besides its water-based activities, Iseltwald is a treasured destination for hikers, offering a network of captivating hiking trails in the surrounding region.

🏡Where To Stay In Iseltwald

A classy spot situated right next to the lake, Strandhotel is perfect if you’re looking for awesome views right from your hotel room.

Zermatt

Zermatt, nestled at the foot of the iconic Matterhorn, stands as one of Europe’s premier ski resorts. Boasting a network of 54 mountain railways and chairlifts, it’s a paradise for snow enthusiasts. But that’s not all! If skiing isn’t your thing, Zermatt has a world of relaxation to offer, from serene spas to scenic hiking trails. And when it comes to dining, you’re in for a treat, with a multitude of outstanding restaurants. Don’t forget to explore the mountains via the convenient cable cars.

An intriguing note: Zermatt itself is a car-free village, so be ready for some delightful exploration on foot.

🏡Where To Stay In Zermatt

A Swiss town with many accommodation options, I’d recommend staying at either the more upscale Wellness Hotel Alpenhof, or the more budget friendly, and ski-to-door friendly Alpenblick Superior.

Grindelwald

Grindelwald, cradled in the heart of the Jungfrau region, is a haven for mountain enthusiasts. This idyllic mountain resort lures skiers, rock climbers, and hikers alike.

Discover the exhilarating First Cliff Walk or immerse yourself in the stunning Eiger Trail. For an unforgettable experience, journey to the ‘Top of Europe’ at Jungfraujoch, or explore the captivating Gletscherschlucht Ravine.

The village of Grindelwald, small and easy to explore, exudes Alpine charm with its quaint chalet-style houses, an array of delectable restaurants, and welcoming hotels.

🏡Where To Stay In Grindelwald

For something more upscale, it’s hard to beat the Hotel Spinne Grindelwald. If you’re going for something more low-key, then I’d recommend the Hotel Central Wolter.

Sion

Sion, the capital of Valais, is an enchanting Swiss city steeped in rich history and renowned for its local wine. While in Sion, don’t miss the chance to explore its captivating architecture and the charm of the Old Town. Immerse yourself in the melodies of a music festival and savor a vineyard tour. Whether you’re into hiking or skiing, the natural beauty of Sion won’t disappoint. And be sure to visit the basilica nestled within Valere Castle.

🏡Where To Stay In Sion

As for accommodations, Hotel Elite offers a great mid-level option. For a more secluded escape just 4km from Sion, Hotel des Vignes is an excellent choice.

Soglio

Soglio, perched along Italy’s northern border, paints a picture of narrow cobblestone streets, picturesque castles, and awe-inspiring mountain vistas. This mountain ledge village, with its views of nearby mountains and the Bondasca Glacier, is a haven for hiking enthusiasts. With only a handful of residents, Soglio is the perfect retreat for unwinding and savoring valley views.

🏡Where To Stay In Soglio

In Soglio, consider staying at Hotel Stua Granda, conveniently located near the bus stop. Their simple yet cozy rooms and delightful buffet make for a comfortable stay.”

Wengen

Nestled in the majestic Jungfrau region, Wengen is a picturesque Alpine wonderland perched high in the Swiss Alps. Here, the scenery is straight out of a fairy tale, with the iconic Eiger, Jungfrau, and Monch mountains painting a breathtaking backdrop.

The journey to Wengen is as captivating as the destination itself. Hop on the mountain railway from Lauterbrunnen, and you’ll be treated to awe-inspiring views along the way.

🏡Where to Stay in Wengen

For the epitome of Wengen’s charm, the exquisite Hotel Regina takes the crown. But if you’re seeking a budget-friendly escape without compromising on views, Alpenruhe Kulm is your cozy haven.

Adelboden

Adelboden, a traditional Alpine village, offers the quintessential Swiss chalet experience. With over 300 kilometers of mountain and hiking trails, it’s a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Adelboden is also home to Switzerland’s second tallest waterfalls, the awe-inspiring 600-meter-high Engstligen waterfalls, just a leisurely 90-minute stroll from town.

Wellness aficionados will find their haven here, with a variety of spa options, including multi-sensory showers, footbaths, saunas, and abundant mineral springs in the vicinity.
